Sell Your Photos

Ready to sell your photos?  Below is a list of online stock photo agencies that will allow you to contribute to their collections for absolutely free.  Agencies tend to have their own ways of doing business, so included is a brief review of each site with ratings for some common features*.  When you are ready to sign up with an agency, just click on the blue "website" link.  Enjoy!

    Shutterstock
In terms of downloads and money earned, I have had the most success with this agency.  Shutterstock offers your photos both through subscriptions and as individual purchases.  Everytime one of your images is downloaded through a subscription you earn 25 cents.  Buyers can also purchase extended licenses of your images for resale, resulting in considerably larger commissions (such as $28) depending on image size and the license.  The website is no frills, but has a clean and easy to use interface for uploading and tagging.  Reviews can take a few days and be inconsistent.  Don't be discouraged if your initial submissions are rejected.

    123RF
Although your submissions will occasionally be rejected, this agency has a pretty liberal and fairly quick review process.  Its website boasts one of the best designs in terms of style, ease of use, and features.  123RF may not be as popular as some of the other agencies, nevertheless its website offers many ways to help differentiate yourself from other contributors such as photographer interviews and photo donations.  Buyers can choose from several different licenses with commissions usually in the dollar range.  Unfortunately, 123RF does not offer subscription downloads.

    BigStockPhoto
I have not uploaded many photos to this agency, but I have already earned a little money.  BigStockPhoto has an excellent acceptance rate for submissions; although the turn around time is not the fastest.  The website is very basic - almost too simple - and does not offer many features.  However, it is easy to use and the sales potential seems promising.

    Dreamstime
Dreamstime has a low acceptance rate for submissions, at least that has been my experience.  It also seems hard to get your images noticed.  The website design is solid and offers many features, but looks a little cluttered.  I'm not sure if the company is well known in the industry.

This agency seems to be very popular with contributors at the moment.  Its website offers many features, which makes it extremely hard to navigate; the design certainly does not help.  My acceptance rate has been very low, and perhaps beginners should avoid this agency.

    Fotolia
I have submitted many photos to Fotolia, and by far, its acceptance rate has been one of the worst.  Also, those photos that have been accepted have received few views.  In general, the website is pretty simplistic and does not offer many features.  However, Fotolia may have more of an international exposure than the other agencies.  Beginners may want to avoid this agency.
